I was introduced to “wood turning” at a very early age by my Grandfather who lived on a wonderful tree covered farm in remote Southern Missouri. On his crude, home-made lathe, he created many beautiful pieces. He worked outside in the open air, behind the barn, and in full view of “the woods” which provided an ample supply of our “medium”.
It was in this environment that I began my lifelong passion for turning wood and many other creative art-forms.
In contrast, my studio is currently located in the San Francisco bay area filled with more modern tools and surrounded by some of the greatest art and natural beauty in the world. It is from this place that I often draw inspiration for my current activities while building on those early lessons from a great teacher.
My goal is to create uniqueness in the work while developing techniques previously untried in traditional wood turning. I am continually influenced by Native American crafts such as pottery, quillwork, and beadwork and my current focus is on developing these illusions in wood.
